    Description

Marketers aren’t the only ones that like email, however; consumers do, too! According to a January 2015 survey from MarketingSherpa, consumers prefer brands communicate with them via email rather than any other means. Of those surveyed, 72% of U.S. adults indicated a preference for companies to communicate with them via email, easily beating out text message (19%) and social media (17%).

Email marketing isn’t going anywhere. In fact, the channel seems to be gaining in popularity. Driven by the ubiquity of smartphones, email open rates are on the rise. According to the Q3 2014 North America Email Trends and Benchmarks report from Epsilon and the Email Institute, email open rates have increased 6.5% year-over-year.

Because of this, studying email marketing trends is now essential for every direct marketer. Thanks to Who’s Mailing What! — the most complete database of email (and direct mail) in the world — marketers can observe the trends in their market category. Who’s Mailing What! began collecting email in 2008, gained full-steam in the Fall of 2008 and now archives over 20,000 emails monthly.

Here are just a few ways this email trend data can be used to make you a more effective and profitable, marketer:

  • Learn how adjust your email design to ensure your messages are delivered and read.
  • Discover why it's not so difficult to optimize emails for your multi-screen audience … and the payoff is worth it!
  • See how to make your preheaders do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to increasing your email open rate.
  • When email volume is highest, by both the time of day and day of the week.
